During the day, the neighbourhood is rather quiet and belongs to its residents. In the evening, however, the Reeperbahn and the neighbouring streets and squares come to life:

Locals and tourists then visit the city's most famous nightlife district. Lights flash, clubs and bars open their doors, there is live music and visitors drift through the night.

Music has always been an important topic here, and in the 1960s music history was even written: In the Große Freiheit, a side street of the Reeperbahn, the Beatles had their first performances!

Every big city has nightlife districts, but the Reeperbahn is rightly considered the "sinful mile": gentlemen in particular are addressed and loudly invited to strip clubs and bars with entertainment. Well-known nightclubs such as "Susi's Show Bar" or the "Dollhouse" are established greats where both men and women put on stylish strip shows.

The nave impresses with its five organs, among other things, and the church tower offers a magnificent view over the city. In its almost 400-year history, the Michel has had to be completely rebuilt twice.

The Michel, right next to the harbour and landing stages, is one of the most beautiful churches in northern Germany and, with 2,500 seats, the largest church in Hamburg. The 132 m high tower is particularly eye-catching for most visitors, it is clad in copper plates
and offers a spectacular view over the Hanseatic city at 82 m and after 452 steps on a viewing platform.

Above all this tower, the Michel can be seen almost throughout Hamburg's city centre and, despite competition from the Elbphilharmonie, continues to be a tourist magnet and a defining feature of Hamburg's cityscape.

The tower clock hangs below the viewing platform. With a diameter of eight metres, it is the largest tower clock in Germany - the large hands are almost five metres long and the small ones 3.60 metres.

It symbolises a bridge between tradition and modernity. Designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, the building stands on a former quayside warehouse. The now famous glass façade rises above its red brick walls. With its curved glass panels, it reflects the sky and the water, resembling a giant crystal.

The large concert hall was developed by Japanese acoustics expert Yasuhisa Toyota and is considered an acoustic wonder. Its cladding is made of plasterboard, and no two panels are alike. This, together with the shell-shaped structure of the concert hall, ensures that the sound refracts in the best possible way at every point in the hall and thus develops the optimal sound.

The public plaza at a height of 37 m offers a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the harbour and the city. Even the way up to the plaza is impressive. The visitor floats up on the "Tube", the longest curved escalator in Europe, covering 82 m and 30 metres in height.

The extensive park with its different theme gardens and greenhouses offers relaxation and deceleration in the hectic city life. Miniature golf courses, an ice rink or skating rink and a huge playground also make the park popular with families.

A special spectacle in the summer months are the water and light shows. Here, every evening at 10 pm, a water organ and a light organ play to classical music, creating a magical atmosphere and a spectacular show.

Concerts, readings, teahouse events, theatre performances and chess gardens are all part of the park's programme, as are guided tours and walks on various themes.

The Port of Hamburg is over 830 years old, today it is not only the largest seaport in Germany and the third largest in Europe, it is also considered the largest railway port in Europe and is the largest industrial area in Northern Europe.

The port area covers an area of over 7,300 hectares. A total of around 10,000 seagoing vessels reach the Port of Hamburg every year, including container ships up to 400 metres in length.

The Port of Hamburg has three cruise terminals that can be called at all year round. Major events such as the Hafengeburtstag, the Cruise Days or the Blue Port attract tens of thousands of visitors every year.

Ten so-called "quarters" present a colourful overall picture through their diversity and variety. From the Landungsbrücken, there is a wonderful view over the harbour and the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall, shops and restaurants invite you to stroll around. Museum ships such as the tall ship "Rickmer Rickmers" or the "Cap San Diego" can be visited and show an insight into life at sea.

The listed building complex on the waterfront is the old passenger check-in hall. At its western end is the entrance to the old Elbe tunnel.

The Old Elbe Tunnel runs over 400 metres under the Elbe from St. Pauli Landungsbrücken to Steinwerder in the Port of Hamburg. It was considered a technical sensation when it was opened in 1911 and is now a listed building. Vehicles are still transported today by the historic vehicle lifts 24 metres down into the two tiled tubes. Numerous commuters use the tunnel to get to work in the Port of Hamburg and many tourists are enthusiastic about this historic route to the other side of the Elbe.

The beautiful, dark red buildings with the pulleys in the gables are still used as warehouses, but also house many leisure facilities such as the well-known "Miniatur Wunderland" or the eerie "Hamburg Dungeon", where you can take a journey through the dark side of Hamburg's history.

Many museums can also be found in the Speicherstadt, e.g. the "German Customs Museum" or the "International Maritime Museum".

There is also a lot to experience outside the beautiful old warehouses: There are launches in the long canals between the rows of buildings and the traditional ship harbour in Sandtorhafen attracts visitors with up to 20 historic ships.

Unique miniature masterpiece has been created on 1,545 m² in around 990,000 working hours - and it keeps growing. Apart from the sophisticated technology, the wealth of detail is particularly remarkable. Over 289,000 figures have been lovingly staged, cars and ships move through the landscapes, and even aeroplanes take off every minute.
